UEFA Launches Disciplinary Proceedings Involving Chelsea's Pedro Neto After Push on Paris St-Germain Stadium Attendant.

European football's governing body has initiated formal action against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto after he knocked over a ball boy during a Champions League loss by PSG.

The Portugal international, Neto, pushed the boy in stoppage time of Wednesday's last-16 fixture at Parc des Princes – where his team suffered a heavy defeat – an action that led to the boy to fall off his seat.

It sparked an altercation between both sets of players.

Uefa said the case has been opened against Neto for "unsporting behaviour" in accordance with UEFA's code.

"Disciplinary officials will decide on this case at a later date," European football's governing body added in its statement.

The Chelsea player said sorry after the match attributing it to being caught up "by the heat of the moment" while he was attempting to regain possession of the ball.

"That is not who I am. Emotions were running high and I want to apologise. I gave him my shirt. I'm really sorry about it - an apology is necessary," Neto explained to broadcasters.

"My French is not very good, so teammate Vitinha came over and told him that it was a momentary lapse.

"At the end he [the ball boy] laughed and I gave him my shirt and said sorry about 35 times. He could see what had happened and was content with how it was resolved."

The London club welcome PSG in the upcoming second leg for the return fixture, following a match against Newcastle at their home ground on Saturday in domestic competition.
