Donald Trump’s corporate entity increased its hiring of foreign workers on temporary visas this period, even as his government was creating barriers for other businesses wanting to do the same, an analysis published Thursday claimed.
Based on data from the federal labor department, the business sought to hire at least nearly 200 overseas employees in 2025 for short-term roles at the US president’s Florida property, golf facilities and his Virginia winery.
The number of requests for H-2A and H-2B visas for staff including servers, clerks, cleaning staff, kitchen staff and agricultural laborers was the highest ever filed by the organization, and increased from 121 in the previous term, when his presidency ended.
It was also the fifth time in 10 years that Trump had attempted to hire over a hundred foreign employees for seasonal jobs at Mar-a-Lago, based on labor statistics.
The revelation coincides with a crackdown on legal immigration by his administration that has involved the implementation of a substantial charge on H1-B visas; increased review of the activities of the millions of people who possess US visas; and tighter regulations for foreign students and reporters.
In total, the Trump Organization aimed to hire 566 overseas workers over the period the former president has been in the White House, from his first term and during 2025.
Significantly, Trump was criticized by certain in the Republican party this week for remarks justifying the necessity for foreign workers when a business was unable to find people with “specific talents” to fill certain positions.
“You can’t just say a nation is coming in, going to invest $10bn to build a plant, and going to take people off an jobless roster who haven’t worked in years, and they’re going to start producing their missiles. It isn’t feasible that effectively,” he told a interviewer after she suggested that overseas employees lower the pay of American employees.
The administration declined a request for response, and the business did not provide an answer to an request for information.
