The skiing legend Assured of Being 'in prime form' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of claiming a podium spot for the fourth time in five World Cup events.

The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Competing at the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I didn't quite have the right line on the first jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm happy with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn stepped away from competition in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 following a major knee surgery.

With less than two months remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She already possesses one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the 2026 Games.

"At the Olympics, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has secured over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup campaign features a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Norway on 21 March 2026.
