The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
