Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, including the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

Price's death comes shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
