That Grisly Animated Film Ending That Haunts Fans

Among all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I have personally viewed, no other has lingered in my mind quite like the fear-filled conclusion of the viscerally violent as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

In the year 2015, this Spain-based filmmaker developed a grim, somber and frequently brutal world that included a few small , forlorn glimmers of hope.

Although Unicorn Wars seems like it stemmed from a drive to push animation further, the filmmaker stated that it was actually a try to express a global, multicultural message concerning “the common origin of each battle.”

That message is expressed via a band of vividly colored bears , openly based on a well-known series of cuddly figures.

Being raised in a society built around warmongering as well as the military-industrial complex, a lot of the bears are consumed by exterminating unicorns, due to a sacred text that tells the bears they used to be kings of the woodland, before the horned beings drove them out.

Others have not completely fallen for the indoctrination, and choose to try out narcotics and mate in the forest.

In contrast to their gentle equivalents, these vivid animals show sexual organs and clear sex drives.

For a certain notably brutal, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the conflict against the unicorns turns into a road to control — and especially to supremacy over his more tender, more compassionate sibling Tubby.

Bluey is a bully , an apparent antisocial figure , and when horror dominates his squad and kills his fellow soldiers sequentially, he grabs progressively power for himself, through ever more gory, destructive ways.

At the same time, these mythical beings are enduring their own terror, through a spreading, harmful creature in their forest.

“Initially, it appears as a humorous movie,” the director stated. “However it turns into a more intense and sorrowful film. And in the finale, it becomes a horror film.”

The Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the more whimsical films by a renowned animator, which find a mischievous joy in allowing animated figures curse, engage in violence, or sex each other up.

Afterward it evolves into something more like a more grim film by that same artist, with increasingly explicit brutality , a tangible relation to the real suffering of war.

In the finale, it becomes an outright theatrical horror bloodbath.

The terror that makes the film a Halloween-friendly viewing begins much sooner than one might expect.

Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted gorehounds, for fans of intense movies who desire to see something they have not seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a story that pulls unflinching brutality.

Watch it with the lights off without any distractions, and the conclusion will dig under your skin and stay with you.
