Bouldering in the National Park

Even absolute newcomers will rapidly be ascending protected Peak District rock faces on this weekend program. Participants of every skill level – even novices – will be taught how to design and produce abstract artworks. Part of the schedule will be spent in the open air, working on tutorials in the open. These initial sketches and watercolour studies will then be developed in the workspace, with attendees completing several interpretive scenes in acrylic paint to be exhibited in the village. Participants has sole use of the hotel, which is built around an open courtyard and has a sun terrace with panoramic vistas over the hills. The cost encompasses five days’ painting tuition; all meals; and an trip to the nearby fortress and additional local sights.

Plant-Based Culinary in Portugal

This Mediterranean foodie getaway, set on a riverside villa in the inland Portuguese region, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. Guests will learn to produce meze spreads, take part in a falafel-making workshop, perfect brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains such as spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. There are trips to the local market and a nearby winery to taste local vintages, combined with leisure time for walks by the Funcho River, to relax on the deck or swim in the infinity pool. The accommodation, a renovated rural property, has multiple rooms, plus safari tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in Buckinghamshire

Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an uplifting, welcoming weekend adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The format each day is a party-style group warmup, then three hour-and-a-half workshops covering various street dance styles, then an hour-long jam to show off new moves. Participants are split into levels based on skill level, so it is perfect for those who are brand new to popping and locking, all the way to experienced performers or instructors. The camp doesn’t include lodging but there are a number of hostels and hotels within walking distance, and it is 23-35 minutes by rail into London.

Maritime Singing Break in Cornwall

This coastal town is the ideal setting for a maritime music retreat. Participants will be taught historic sailing songs from a experienced musician, and have a go at writing their own. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breath control techniques, performance tips and a closing performance. The holiday is based at a rural hotel with views of St Ives Bay. Full board are provided, including a traditional tea on arrival, breakfast options, packed lunches and three-course dinners. Grog, alas, is not included. Everyone join in: “What will we do with the tipsy mariner …?”

Creative Writing in Greece

Writer and lecturer an experienced instructor runs the regular sessions on this authors' getaway. He covers topics including story structure, character development, setting and suspense, to sending manuscripts to publishers. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will participate in events at the start and finish of the week. The holiday is based at a traditional complex in Vamos at the foot of the Lefka Ori – ten private accommodations surround a central garden with a pool (non-writing partners are welcome to come along). On the last night, budding authors mark the occasion with a concert in the garden and a final meal.

A leading eco-centre near Machynlleth runs a wide range of courses covering eco-living: from creating habitats to making pallet furniture. This weekend introduction will help attendees understand the basics of beekeeping, study the life cycle of honeybees and discover their ecological importance. It is aimed at produce “bee-friendly beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to relax in the organization's carefully maintained forests, which are home to wildlife, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and rare birds. Sailing for Beginners in the Blackwater Estuary

These recently launched weekend sailing courses are spent on Wayfarers and Dufours on the Blackwater estuary. They are designed for adult beginners learning the ropes or those with some knowledge who want a skills update. Sailors can improve their steering, strengthen their seamanship and aim for the recognized levels one to three in a supportive atmosphere. There are day-only and overnight options, with accommodation in simple dorms in the waterfront training centre. The day option provides lunches, while the overnight option includes two nights’ accommodation and full board, from hearty breakfasts to evening barbecues.
