Reigning Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.

The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight season.

The 27-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.

A Season of Consistency

Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.

Historic Achievements

Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a record £11m in prize money.

She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.

On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".

Other WTA Award Recipients

• Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
• Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.

Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
