A group of students at a British college have expressed significant frustration after discovering their career-focused module was largely delivered via artificial intelligence.
James and Owen were among 41 participants who started a programming course expecting to switch into tech careers through a publicly-supported training program.
But the expectations were soon reduced when they experienced AI-generated presentations being read by an computer-generated narration.
When we turned in assignments that was created by AI, we'd be kicked out from the institution,” stated James during a documented discussion with his teacher.
Learners repeatedly expressed issues about the AI materials, but the college seems to have persisted using AI-generated content.
Notably, the university upholds rigorous guidelines restricting pupil use of AI, saying that presenting artificially created work constitutes integrity violation.
This case reflects a broader trend across colleges more and more incorporating AI tools for education, resource development, and customized evaluation.
Students observed multiple clues indicating computer-created content:
James expressed significant concern about his professional prospects, stating he felt “stuck with this course” after investing considerable effort.
Another participant, experiencing a career change, commented he had chosen the module for valuable knowledge rather than merely a qualification.
“Sitting there with material that is just unworthy of anyone's time,” he stated, “when you could be devoting that time really participating in something meaningful, is really discouraging.”
In spite of university statements about maintaining academic standards, learners felt the concluding inclusion of real teachers was inadequate and belated” to fix their basic concerns.
