High-ranking Labour Party figure Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has urged the party to move beyond internal conflicts after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer directly said sorry to health minister Wes Streeting over hostile briefings originating from the Prime Minister's office.
The internal unrest started after allegations emerged about critical background comments from Starmer's team targeting the Health Secretary. Although initial attempts to downplay the matter, the talk between Starmer and the health minister apparently took a more serious direction.
The Prime Minister expressed regret to Streeting, reporters have been advised. The discussion was concise, and they did not discuss the chief of staff, whom Starmer is now under increasing scrutiny to sack.
In his early morning media interviews, Ed Miliband highlighted the need for the Labour Party to focus on national issues rather than party divisions.
Clearly, I think the backgrounding has been bad, no question.
But my call to the Labour party now is clear, which is we need to prioritize the nation, not ourselves.
We were given a significant election win last summer, a major opportunity to improve our nation. And we have a major obligation.
