The British boxer Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, officials in Lagos stated on Wednesday evening. The 36-year-old was involved in a car accident outside Lagos on the 29th of December, a horrific crash that took the lives of two of his team members.
The sports star had remained in the hospital while recuperating from non-critical injuries, his promoter had said on Monday. The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post online that Joshua was judged healthy enough to leave and heal privately.
“Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being prepared for repatriation,” the commissioner stated.
The victims of the crash were identified as Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a conditioning specialist. Omotoso added that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the loss of his two dear friends.”
His release from the hospital comes as the sports world shared sympathy for the champion in the aftermath of the devastating accident.
